Can I pass on my Clubcards points?

The short answer is: in some cases yes.

It is estimated that there are £5.7 billion in loyalty points between UK consumers. This is approximately £122 per loyalty card customer.

With a huge amount of money at stake, why let businesses keep the points that you have accumulated?

It has been in the news that Facebook will allow executors to access ‘memorialised’ accounts – many people have years of photographs and experiences in those accounts that family members quite rightly want access to.

An overwhelming majority of consumers don’t realise they can pass on their loyalty points, and a distinct minority of over 55’s mention them in their Will.

For the sake of some extra lines in your Will, it seems sensible to leave these points to a chosen beneficiary.

Tesco Clubcard points can be passed on through your Will, put Boots loyalty points can only be passed on if you notify Boots who your chosen beneficiary is.

Nectar points can be passed on where a death certificate is produced, and Avios air miles confirm that they will ‘consider’ the transfer of points to a beneficiary.

Marks & Spencer points cannot be passed on. Companies are however catering for this issue more and more – make sure you pass your points on in your Will?
